Algorithms of anxiety: the positive and negative impacts of technology on the choices of businesses, workers, and consumers

The acceleration of the digital revolution and the pervasiveness of artificial intelligence are driving profound changes in how individuals, consumers, and companies make decisions and plan for the future. The increasing reliance on outsourcing decision-making to intelligent algorithms is redefining the very notion of agency—from consumer choices to human resource management and business strategies.
However, this scenario is not without its challenges. The promise of efficiency and prediction is accompanied by a tangible rise in social anxiety, fueled by factors such as technological unemployment, chronic information overload, the psychological impact of social media, and a growing sense of digital surveillance and control.
As a result, businesses face a dual challenge: on the one hand, managing teams that must recalibrate their skills while adopting AI systems; on the other, rethinking their structures in a context of constant transformation, where consumers are increasingly demanding.

The webinar will explore these dynamics through the lens of sociologist Anthony Elliott, a leading thinker in understanding the new algorithmic paradigm. The goal is to provide concrete tools for companies to establish a new, more conscious relationship with technology, such as:

  • how the outsourcing of decisions impacts businesses and consumers
  • how to manage organizational change
  • how to implement (and understand the limits of) intelligent technologies in business
  • and how to respond to the evolving needs of employees and consumers.
