In this webinar, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the possibilities offered by the latest technological developments related to nuclear energy and the role it will play in the broader context of the energy transition. In Italy, in fact, the new PNIEC – the official document on which the national energy policy is based – for the first time envisions a role for new nuclear energy in the energy scenario by 2050.

In this perspective, technological development is leading to new models of small-scale reactors (the so-called "new nuclear") – such as Small Modular Reactors and Advanced Modular Reactors – which can offer greater flexibility, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and multiple industrial applications compared to traditional technology.

In this meeting, the results of the study conducted by TEHA, in collaboration with Edison and Ansaldo Nucleare, will be shared, aiming to qualify the role of new nuclear energy for European and Italian energy security and transition. The study highlights the value of this new technology for decarbonization (in an integrated and complementary perspective with renewables) and the industrial competitiveness of Italy, emphasizing the implications for local areas (citizens and businesses).

In particular, participants will take away:

• the systemic benefits offered by new nuclear energy for the country, businesses, and citizens
